Department of Pathology is an accredited medical laboratory that encompasses five pathology disciplines, namely Anatomic Pathology Unit, Chemical Pathology Unit, Haematology & Transfusion Medicine Unit, Medical Genetic Pathology Unit and Forensic Pathology Unit.
Department of Pathology caters for both diagnostic and research service. It is located on the first floor of the UiTM Medical Specialist Centre (UiTMMSC), UiTM Sungai Buloh Campus and on the 5th floor of the UiTM Medical Specialist Centre, UiTM Selayang Campus.

Services Provided
Anatomic Pathology Unit provides the following services: Histopathology Macroscopic and microscopic examination of tissue specimens with interpretive diagnosis. This includes formalin-fixed specimens as well as fresh specimens for frozen section. Cytology Diagnostic and screening services based on the morphologic study of cells. It is divided into two categories
Forensic Pathology provides a service for management of deceased patients. The procedures include issuance of burial permit, death registration and certification of medical cause of death. There is a facility for a temporary holding of a deceased patient prior to release to the respective next-of-kin. The body holding room is available at the ground level. In case where longer storage time or an autopsy examination is needed, the deceased will be transferred to the Department of Forensic Medicine, Hospital Sungai Buloh. The unit will facilitate the process in order to ensure smooth and efficient transfer of the deceased and continue with the necessary follow-up at the hospital |
Chemical Pathology deals with detecting changes in a wide range of substances (e.g. electrolytes, blood gases, enzymes, glucose, proteins, lipids, hormones, etc.) in the blood and body fluids in association with many diseases. Services provided include the pre-analysis, analysis and interpretation of biochemical changes in serum / plasma and body fluids for screening, diagnosing, and monitoring of diseases, as well as consultation for diagnostic and research purposes. Medical genetics is a new and an emerging discipline which deals with diagnostic, predictive and precision medicine involving genetic mutations. Services as yet to be provided to cater the growing needs, but as of to date, testing related to cytogenetics and molecular will be done in collaboration with Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Institute of Medical Research (karyotyping of postnatal sample; ie. blood and bone marrow samples, real time PCR, sequencing and etc). UiTM Medical Specialist Centre Sg. Buloh : 24 hours (except Anatomic Pathology). UiTM Medical Centre Selayang : Monday to Friday, 8.00 am - 5.00 pm. The Pathologist is available for consultation or assistance after office hours for both campuses. (One Pathologist for each unit/call) |
